Editorial Policy & Affiliate Disclosure

Transparency is core to everything we publish. This page explains how we research, review, and recommend e-invoicing software — and how we fund this work.

Our Review Methodology

Every software review and comparison on EU E-Invoicing Hub follows a structured evaluation process. We do not publish reviews based on vendor marketing materials alone.

How We Evaluate Software

Each product is assessed across four dimensions:

Ease of Use

Onboarding experience, interface clarity, documentation quality, and time-to-first-invoice for a new user.

Compliance Coverage

Support for mandated formats (XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, Peppol), EN 16931 compliance, and GoBD-compliant archiving.

Support Quality

Response times, available channels (chat, email, phone), knowledge base depth, and German-language support availability.

Value for Money

Pricing relative to features, free tier/trial availability, hidden costs, and price-to-feature ratio vs. competitors.

Our Scoring System

Ratings are on a 1.0–5.0 scale. The overall score is a weighted average:

  • Compliance Coverage — 35% (most critical for our audience)
  • Ease of Use — 25%
  • Value for Money — 25%
  • Support Quality — 15%

We re-evaluate ratings when vendors release major updates or when format requirements change (e.g., a new XRechnung version).

What We Test

For each vendor review, we assess:

  1. Free trial or demo — We sign up and walk through the actual onboarding experience.
  2. Invoice creation — We create test invoices in XRechnung and ZUGFeRD formats and validate the output against the KoSIT validator.
  3. Format compliance — We verify EN 16931 field coverage and check that generated XML passes schema validation.
  4. Integration testing — We check key integrations listed by the vendor (DATEV export, banking, e-commerce).
  5. Pricing verification — We confirm published pricing and check for hidden fees (setup costs, extra users, format limits).
  6. Support test — We contact support with a compliance-related question and measure response time and quality.

Sources We Use

  • Official vendor documentation and changelogs
  • Government sources: BMF (Federal Ministry of Finance), KoSIT (Coordination Office for IT Standards), EU Commission
  • EN 16931 standard and its German implementation guides
  • Published customer reviews on Trustpilot, G2, and Capterra
  • Direct vendor communication when clarification is needed

What We Do NOT Do

  • We never publish paid reviews or let vendors dictate content.
  • We never fabricate ratings, testing data, or user testimonials.
  • We never rank a product higher because they pay more commission.
  • We never hide negative findings to protect affiliate revenue.

Affiliate Disclosure

EU E-Invoicing Hub participates in affiliate and partner programs with e-invoicing software vendors. This is how we fund our research and keep content free.

How Affiliate Links Work

  1. Some links on this site are “affiliate links” — they contain a tracking code unique to EU E-Invoicing Hub.
  2. When you click an affiliate link and purchase a product, the vendor or affiliate network pays us a commission.
  3. You pay the same price whether you use our link or go directly to the vendor. Affiliate links never increase the price for you.

Affiliate Networks We Work With

We participate in programs through the following networks and direct partnerships:

  • AWIN
  • Direct vendor affiliate programs (sevDesk, easybill, Lexware, etc.)
  • Other affiliate networks as applicable

How We Mark Affiliate Links

Affiliate links on EU E-Invoicing Hub are identified by:

  • Visual labels: Call-to-action buttons such as “Try Free →” or “Start Free →” next to vendor recommendations.
  • Disclosure text: Articles containing affiliate links include a notice such as “Affiliate link — see our editorial policy”.
  • HTML attributes: Affiliate links use rel="nofollow sponsored" as required by search engine guidelines.

The Firewall Between Editorial and Revenue

This is the most important commitment we make: affiliate relationships have zero influence on our editorial decisions. Specifically:

  • If a product scores poorly in our testing, it receives a low rating — even if we earn commission from it.
  • If a product scores well but has no affiliate program, we still recommend it when appropriate.
  • Our comparison tables are sorted by overall rating by default, not by commission rate.
  • We disclose when a vendor we review does not have an affiliate relationship with us.

Content Standards

Accuracy

We verify regulatory information against official government sources. Prices and features are checked directly on vendor websites. Articles include a “last updated” date showing when information was last verified.

Corrections

If we learn that published information is inaccurate, we correct it promptly and note the correction in the article. If you spot an error, please contact us so we can fix it.

Independence

EU E-Invoicing Hub is independently operated. We are not owned by, invested in, or controlled by any e-invoicing software vendor, accounting firm, or industry organization.
