weclapp E-Invoicing Review 2026: XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, and Peppol for German SMEs

weclapp is one of Germany's fastest-growing cloud ERP platforms, popular with e-commerce businesses, distributors, and service companies. We tested their e-invoicing capabilities ahead of Germany's 2027 sending mandate to see how it stacks up.

Who Should Use weclapp?

weclapp is built for businesses that need more than just invoicing โ€” it is a full cloud ERP covering CRM, order management, inventory, invoicing, accounting, and customer service. It is particularly strong for:

  • E-commerce businesses that invoice across multiple channels (Shopify, Amazon, eBay, WooCommerce)
  • B2B distributors managing orders, delivery notes, and invoices in one place
  • Service companies needing project billing and time tracking alongside invoicing

If you only need invoicing (no order management, inventory, or CRM), weclapp is overkill โ€” sevDesk or easybill are simpler and cheaper. If you need the full ERP, weclapp competes directly with Lexware, Sage, and weclapp's main competitor, Scopevisio.

ZUGFeRD 2.3 Generation: Testing Results

We created a test B2B invoice and generated ZUGFeRD output.

Setup: weclapp Settings โ†’ E-Invoicing โ†’ Document Formats โ†’ ZUGFeRD 2.3 โ†’ Profile: EN 16931

KoSIT Validation result: โœ… Passed โ€” no errors, no critical warnings.

The embedded XML correctly includes:

  • Seller and buyer VAT IDs in structured format
  • Payment terms (IBAN in ISO 13616 format)
  • Tax category codes per line item
  • Buyer reference (BT-10) as optional field โ€” you can make it mandatory in settings if needed

Profile check: The CustomizationID in the XML correctly reads:

urn:cen.eu:en16931:2017#compliant#urn:zugferd.de:2p0:en16931

This confirms the EN 16931 profile โ€” the one required for the German mandate.

XRechnung 3.0: Testing Results

We also generated an XRechnung invoice (UBL format) for a simulated B2G transaction.

Setup: weclapp Settings โ†’ E-Invoicing โ†’ Document Formats โ†’ XRechnung 3.0 โ†’ Format: UBL 2.1

We included a test Leitweg-ID (991-12345678-06) in the buyer reference field.

KoSIT Validation result: โœ… Passed โ€” including the Leitweg-ID format validation.

XRechnung output is clean XML with no extraneous fields. The updated XRechnung 3.0 payment means codes are correctly supported โ€” we tested SEPA credit transfer (code 58) and verified it passed.

Peppol Integration

weclapp's May 2026 update added a native Peppol access point integration. We tested sending a Peppol BIS 3.0 invoice to a Belgian test recipient.

Result: โœ… Successfully delivered within 3 minutes.

The Peppol ID registration is handled through the weclapp interface โ€” you don't need a separate Peppol portal. Your Peppol ID defaults to the NL/DE format for your company registration number.

Coverage: Belgium, Germany (B2G), Netherlands, France (Factur-X PDP routing), Italy (alongside SDI for cross-border).

Pre-Send KoSIT Validation

One standout feature: weclapp runs KoSIT validation before every e-invoice is sent. If there's a validation error, it displays a detailed error report inside weclapp before the invoice leaves your system.

This is genuinely useful โ€” we deliberately created a validation error (wrong tax category code) to test, and weclapp correctly identified it with the specific BT number and error message.

DATEV Integration

weclapp exports DATEV-compatible data for your tax advisor. The DATEV export includes:

  • Invoice records with GoBD-compliant timestamps
  • VAT summaries by period
  • Customer/supplier master data

For businesses whose tax advisor uses DATEV (the majority of German SMEs), this is the key integration. It works well โ€” no manual reformatting needed.

Pricing and Value

Plan Monthly price For whom
weclapp Starter โ‚ฌ29/user/month Single user, up to 1,000 invoices
weclapp Professional โ‚ฌ49/user/month Growing teams, full ERP features
weclapp Enterprise Custom Multi-site, advanced customisation

E-invoicing features (XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, Peppol) are included in all plans from Starter onwards. GoBD archiving is included. No extra modules to buy.

Comparison note: weclapp is more expensive than standalone invoicing tools like easybill (from โ‚ฌ0) or sevDesk (from โ‚ฌ8.90/month), but it includes the full ERP. If you're already paying for ERP functionality elsewhere, weclapp's bundled price is competitive.

What We'd Improve

  1. Peppol country coverage: Currently strongest for Belgium, Germany, Netherlands. France PDP routing is in progress. Italian SDI cross-border routing needs configuration.
  2. Complex multi-entity invoicing: Businesses with multiple German entities can configure weclapp for multi-entity, but the setup is manual and requires support.
  3. Mobile app: The mobile app is functional but the invoice generation workflow is not optimised for mobile โ€” most users invoice from desktop.

Verdict

weclapp is an excellent choice for German SMEs that need a full cloud ERP โ€” not just invoicing. The e-invoicing implementation is genuinely good: native ZUGFeRD 2.3 EN 16931, XRechnung 3.0, Peppol integration, and pre-send KoSIT validation all work correctly.

If you are a pure invoicing business (freelancer, small service company) without order management needs, start with sevDesk or easybill. But if you're managing orders, inventory, or a larger team, weclapp's bundled ERP + e-invoicing offering is hard to beat at this price point.

Rating: 4.3 / 5 โ€” Recommended for SMEs needing cloud ERP with e-invoicing built in.
