Aruba Fatturazione Elettronica Review 2026: Italy's Most-Used E-Invoicing Platform Tested

Over 1 million Italian businesses use Aruba for e-invoicing. That is not marketing โ€” it is a verifiable market-share figure that reflects Aruba's position as Italy's default FatturaPA solution.

But is it actually the best option? We spent time with the platform โ€” free tier, paid plans, the API, and the conservazione sostitutiva archive โ€” to give you an honest assessment.

Aruba's Place in the Italian Market

Aruba is a Trust Service Provider โ€” the same company provides domain hosting, SSL certificates, PEC email (Italy's certified email system), digital signatures, and FatturaPA services. For Italian businesses, Aruba is often the natural first choice because they may already be an Aruba customer for PEC or hosting.

This integration is one of Aruba's genuine advantages: if you use Aruba PEC for certified email, your PEC inbox is seamlessly linked to your FatturaPA inbox.

Free Tier: What You Actually Get

Aruba's free tier is genuinely generous for low-volume users:

  • Unlimited active invoices in the platform (you are not capped at 3 or 5 like some competitors)
  • SDI transmission is included โ€” no per-invoice charge for basic transmission
  • Conservazione sostitutiva for issued invoices is included in the free tier
  • Receiving invoices through SDI is free

What is NOT free:

  • Receiving invoices in bulk / API access โ†’ requires paid plan
  • Sending above the base tier volume (precise limits vary by plan โ€” check current pricing at Aruba.it)
  • Peppol access point (requires the Business plan)

For a freelancer issuing 10โ€“30 invoices per month, the free tier covers everything.

The SDI Transmission Experience

Aruba is a certified SDI intermediary โ€” this is not a technical afterthought. Transmission from Aruba's platform to SDI is typically completed within 5โ€“30 minutes (SDI itself adds processing time; Aruba's submission side is near-instant).

SDI status tracking is clear in the Aruba interface. You see:

  • In consegna: Submitted to SDI, awaiting processing
  • Consegnata: SDI has delivered to the recipient's inbox
  • Impossibile consegnare: SDI could not deliver โ€” typically the Codice Destinatario was wrong
  • Mancata consegna: Delivery failed โ€” Aruba stores it for the buyer to retrieve via their SDI account

The status emails from Aruba arrive promptly. We received a "consegnata" status notification within 12 minutes of submitting a test invoice during our review.

Conservazione Sostitutiva (10-Year Legal Archive)

Italy requires all FatturaPA invoices to be archived for 10 years in AGID-certified digital storage. Aruba's conservazione sostitutiva service is:

  • AGID accredited (Aruba holds full AGID accreditation as a trust service provider)
  • Included for issued invoices at the free tier
  • Legally sufficient for the full 10-year retention period
  • Retrievable on demand โ€” you can download the archived invoice and its associated XML at any time

One limitation: the free tier conservazione covers invoices you send. For invoices you receive (from suppliers through SDI), conservazione at the free tier is not automatic โ€” you need to manage this separately or upgrade to a plan that includes incoming invoice archiving.

This is the same limitation as most Italian platforms. It is worth knowing upfront.

The Interface: Functional, Not Beautiful

Aruba's e-invoicing interface is functional and familiar to Italian users โ€” but it is not the most modern UI in the market. Creating an invoice requires:

  1. Select "Nuova Fattura" (New Invoice)
  2. Fill in recipient Codice Destinatario or PEC
  3. Enter line items with the correct IVA rates and nature codes
  4. Add payment terms (IBAN required for electronic payment data)
  5. Submit

The process is clear but not fast. For high-volume invoice entry, it is slower than platforms with keyboard shortcuts or CSV import.

Codice Destinatario validation: Aruba validates the Codice Destinatario format before submission. This prevents the most common routing error, though it cannot verify whether the code is active for the recipient โ€” that check happens at SDI.

API Access

Aruba provides a REST API for FatturaPA integration. The API allows:

  • Programmatic invoice submission (send via API instead of web form)
  • Incoming invoice retrieval
  • SDI status webhooks
  • Conservazione archive queries

The API documentation is in Italian. For Italian developers, it is adequate. For international developers integrating an Italian subsidiary, the Italian-only documentation is a barrier โ€” consider Fattura24 or InfoCert, which have better international developer support.

Peppol Access Point (Business Plan)

Aruba is a certified Peppol access point. On the Business plan, you can:

  • Send Peppol BIS 3.0 invoices to international recipients (Belgium, Germany B2G, Netherlands)
  • Receive Peppol invoices from cross-border suppliers
  • Route cross-border invoices through Peppol without setting up a separate access point

This is genuinely useful for Italian businesses with German or Belgian customers โ€” one platform for both SDI (domestic) and Peppol (cross-border).

Pricing Overview

Aruba does not publish its full pricing publicly โ€” it varies based on volume and plan tier. As of May 2026:

Plan Approximate Monthly Cost Key Features
Gratuito (Free) โ‚ฌ0 Basic SDI, conservazione for sent invoices
Business ~โ‚ฌ10โ€“โ‚ฌ30/month API access, Peppol, incoming archive
Enterprise Custom quote High-volume, ERP integration

Verify current pricing at aruba.it โ€” Aruba's pricing changes periodically.

Verdict

Aruba Fatturazione Elettronica is the default choice for a reason: it covers the basics excellently, the conservazione is AGID-compliant and included, and the PEC integration is genuinely useful for Italian users.

Aruba is right for you if:

  • You already use Aruba PEC โ€” the integration is seamless
  • You need a reliable, volume-capable platform at low/no cost
  • You are an Italian SMB looking for a trusted local provider

Consider alternatives if:

  • You are a developer or need good English API documentation โ†’ Fattura24
  • You are a large business needing ERP integration and full conservazione for received invoices โ†’ TeamSystem or Zucchetti
  • You are a sole trader issuing < 3 invoices/month โ†’ Fattura24's free tier has a simpler UI
