Austria E-Invoicing: 2026 News and Updates Timeline
A running timeline of Austria's e-invoicing developments in 2026 โ the ebInterface 7.0 update, ViDA's cross-border deadline, and the still-unannounced domestic B2B mandate.
Austria E-Invoicing: 2026 News and Updates Timeline
Austria's e-invoicing story in 2026 has been quieter than France's or Belgium's โ there's no domestic B2B mandate go-live to report. But there have been real developments worth tracking, from a technical standard refresh to the EU-level deadline that will eventually reach Austrian businesses regardless of what Vienna decides domestically. This page tracks them as they happen. For the full regulatory picture, see our Austria e-invoicing complete guide.
Timeline
14 April 2025 โ EU's ViDA package enters into force
The VAT in the Digital Age (ViDA) package, adopted by the Council on 11 March 2025, enters into force across all EU member states, including Austria. Its most relevant milestone for Austrian businesses is still years out: cross-border intra-EU B2B digital reporting becomes mandatory from 1 July 2030.
Mid-2026 โ No domestic B2B mandate announced
As of mid-2026, Austria's Bundesministerium fรผr Finanzen (BMF) has not published a domestic B2B e-invoicing mandate or a target date. The ministry has signalled a general intention to align any future domestic approach with Peppol-based cross-border reporting, similar to the direction taken by Belgium and the Netherlands โ but no formal draft legislation has been published, and no commencement date exists yet. Treat any specific "B2B mandate date" you see cited elsewhere as speculation, not confirmed policy, until the BMF publishes a formal proposal.
Q4 2026 (planned) โ ebInterface 7.0
AUSTRIAPRO, the WKO subsidiary that maintains Austria's domestic e-invoicing standard, is preparing to release ebInterface 7.0, adding a formal syntax binding to EN 16931 โ closing a gap that formats like Factur-X, ZUGFeRD, and Peppol BIS 3.0 already had. AUSTRIAPRO has confirmed the update is not mandatory and is being developed with backwards compatibility, so ebInterface 6.0/6.1 remain valid for B2G invoicing. See our full ebInterface 7.0 explainer for details.
What Hasn't Changed
Two things worth restating, since they're easy to conflate with newer developments:
- The B2G mandate is unchanged. Suppliers to Austrian federal government agencies have had to submit structured e-invoices via ebInterface or Peppol BIS 3.0 since 2014 (extended in scope in 2020), and nothing in 2026 alters that.
- B2B and B2C remain entirely voluntary. Unlike Germany, Italy, France, Poland, or Belgium, Austria has no domestic B2B e-invoicing obligation as of September 2026.
What to Watch Next
- Any formal domestic B2B proposal from the BMF. Until one is published, there is no confirmed Austrian B2B mandate date to plan around โ only the 2030 EU cross-border deadline under ViDA.
- AUSTRIAPRO's ebInterface 7.0 release, expected Q4 2026, and whether its schema simplifies validation for software vendors serving the Austrian market.
- Whether Lรคnder and municipalities (which run separate procurement systems from the federal government) publish any updates to their own e-invoicing requirements.
