SAP S/4HANA Receives Full EN 16931 Certification for All EU E-Invoice Formats
SAP has confirmed EN 16931 certification for S/4HANA Cloud and on-premise across XRechnung, ZUGFeRD, FatturaPA, and Factur-X — covering every major EU mandate in one platform.
SAP's enterprise resource planning platform S/4HANA has received updated EN 16931 certification covering all four major EU e-invoice formats, SAP confirmed in April 2026.
What the Certification Covers
The certification, verified by the KoSIT validator and third-party auditors, confirms that S/4HANA can generate and process:
- XRechnung (UBL 2.1 and UN/CEFACT CII) — required for German B2G and increasingly B2B
- ZUGFeRD 2.3 (EN 16931 and XRechnung profiles) — German B2B mandate format
- FatturaPA (IT namespace, SDI-compatible) — Italian B2B/B2G mandatory format
- Factur-X 1.0 (identical spec to ZUGFeRD 2.x) — French mandate format
What This Means for SAP Customers
Large enterprises already running S/4HANA are now in a strong position for the 2027–2028 sending mandates across Germany and France. SAP has also confirmed that KSeF (Poland) FA_VAT schema support is included in the June 2026 update, ahead of schedule.
For German customers in particular, the XRechnung 3.0 schema changes (introduced Q1 2026 by KoSIT) are included in S/4HANA 2023 FPS02 and later.
Migration Considerations
Companies still running SAP ECC 6.0 should note that the EN 16931 certification applies only to S/4HANA. ECC customers will need to use a certified middleware layer or plan their S/4HANA migration before the 2027 sending mandate deadline.
SAP's migration tools (RISE with SAP, Greenfield, Selective Data Transition) all include the updated e-invoice modules in their scope.
